I recently listened to the podcast “Childlike Wonder: ENCHANTMENT IN C.S. LEWIS & J.R.R. TOLKIEN” from the Row House event with Matt Dickerson. What a great talk. It seems apparent that Matt is a man enthralled by wonder in more than simply an intellectual way. His passion for cultivating the land (caring for honeybees, tapping maple trees for syrup) and his multiple interests (Tolkien/Lewis, philosophy, etc.) suggest a life driven by curiosity. Matt’s talk was a breath of fresh air for me. The themes of Beauty, Wonder and Fantasy are integral ones to my heart. However, I find that everyday life all too often silences my thoughts and conversations surrounding such. Mr. Dickerson’s talk inspired me to begin my own explorations again. To turn off Netflix and perhaps crack open The Silmarillion once more. Or maybe it’s time to look into getting a bee-hive for the yard..
